At a site we visited recently, we were astonished to find that a kitchen installed in the 1960s was still in use! Several of the appliances including a Hobart mixer are still regularly put to work. Needless to say, after 50 years they have decided it’s time for an upgrade to more modern technology.
In the 60s, all counters were fitted around the measurements for Grundy appliances, as these were the standard size they worked to, and in true post-war style, they were often made from old aeroplane metal – recycling at its best.
Will the new kitchen still be going strong in 50 years time? Watch this space!
